Frequently Asked Questions
- What encryption is used?
AES-256 with the PDF 2.0 security handler (V5, R6). Readers that predate AES-256 support, roughly Acrobat 9 and older, cannot open the result. Your password is still the weak point: a short one falls to a dictionary attack whatever the cipher, so use a long passphrase.
- What happens if I lose the password?
We cannot recover it. The password is never sent to us; encryption runs in your browser.
- Does the password also block printing and copying?
No. The password you set is the one needed to open the file, and it is also used as the owner password, so once a reader opens the document every permission stays allowed.
- Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
No. This tool runs inside your browser tab. The file is read from disk locally and the result is written back locally, so there is nothing on our side to store or delete.
- How many files can I process per day?
8 per day without an account, 20 when you are signed in. The counter resets at 00:00 UTC.
