Why can't Windows open my HEIC files?

HEIC is the default on iPhone since iOS 11 and uses HEVC, which is patent-encumbered. Windows ships the decoder as a paid Store add-on, so most PCs cannot open the file.

Is the photo date kept?

No. EXIF is not carried over, so capture date and GPS coordinates are dropped. Rotation is applied to the pixels, so the image is not sideways.

Will the file get bigger?

Usually yes. HEIC is roughly half the size of JPEG at equal quality, so expect the JPG to be about twice as large.

What happens to my file after processing?

It is uploaded over HTTPS, processed, and deleted 24 hours later by an automatic storage rule. Files are never used for anything other than your own conversion.

What are the size limits?

Free: 100 MB per file and 5 files at a time, 8 conversions a day without an account and 20 when signed in. Premium: 500 MB and 20 files. Pro: 1 GB and 50 files.
